About

Gary L. Schreiner, JD

Hello!  I'm Gary Schreiner, founder and owner of Schreiner Law, PLLC.

I have been practicing law since 2002.  Over the course of my career I have been blessed to have gained experience in different legal and law-realted roles inlcuding:

  • Corporate General Counsel
  • Solo Practitioner
  • Legal Ghost Writer
  • Mediation Coordinator (Seventh Judicial District of Idaho)
  • Family Court Services Administrator (Sixth Judicial District of Idaho)
  • Certified Professional Mediator
  • Certified Professional Mediation Trainer
  • Child Custody Mediator
  • Parenting Coordintor
  • Chair, Alternative Dispute Resolution Section, Idaho State Bar
  • Chair, Bannock County Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Task Force
  • Board of Directors, Idaho Mediation Association
  • Member, District 7 Juvenile Justice Council
  • Legal Intern (Utah Administrative Office of the Courts)
  • Law Clerk

These roles immersed me in diverse areas of the law , such as: business, entertainment, family, child protection, medical malpractice, employment, real estate, adoption, contracts, juvenile justice, restorative justice, small claims, estate planning, and bankruptcy.

I presently maintain a legal practice with the firm of Banks McNally & Dodge PLLC., where my practice is focused on estate planning, bankruptcy, small business (including contracts and intellectual property), and drone law.

I am licensed in Idaho (active) and Utah (inactive).

Outside of this legal stuff, I am an independent filmmaker, photographer, musician, writer, and black belt.  I have earned certificates in Film & TV Industry Essentials and Music Industry Essentials from NYU/Yellowbrick.co.  I formerly coached and currently referee youth soccer.  I'm fortunate to serve on the regional board for American Youth Soccer Organization Region 102 and have served on the board of directors for the Idaho Falls Youth Arts Council ("IFYAC").   What can I say?  There are many things in life that fascinate me.  But what I love most of all is spending time with my family.

Supporting Cast

Here at Schreiner Law and Amicasaurus Lex, I have a supporting cast that I couldn't do this without.  Okay, I could do it without them, but it wouldn't be as fun.  Although everything these characters do or say is written by me, somehow they have taken on lives of their own.

  • Lex

    Lex

    Distinguished Legal Scholar

A black-robe-wearing, gavel-wielding dinosaur? Why not? Lex is what really started this all. I was trying to come up with something different and fun to help me explain legal concepts. I was playing with the word "amicus," which means "friend," from the legal term "amicus curiae," meaning "friend of the court." "Amicus" soon became "Amicusaurus." "Amicusaurus Rex" naturally popped into my head, but that didn't really fit. So, "Rex" was replaced with "Lex," which is Latin for law. Thus, Amicasaurus Lex was born. Of course this needed to be represented by a dinosaur! My good friend Lex was hand drawn (by me), then scanned in, cleaned up, and colored using some simple apps. Lex is thoughtful, intelligent, loyal, dedicated, and hard working. He shares my passion for using the law to make people's lives better.

  • Sylvia

    Sylvia

    Legal Assistant

Sylvia is, as you can see, AI. She was created and refined using a variety of AI tools. Why add an AI assistant into the mix? Frankly, because I thought it would be fun. Sylvia is sassy, snarky, and cynical (yes, I know that doesn't start with S, but it should). Sometimes even I don't know what she'll say next. She reminds me of those ventriloquist's puppets that seem to be more in control of the situation than the ventriloquist is.

  • Dia

    Dia

    Legal News Anchor

Dia is the latest addition to the team. I needed someone a bit more professional and grounded to offset Sylvia. She was, as you probably guessed, created using AI tools. Despite being younger than Sylvia, she is definitely the more mature of the two.
